Pysanky: Art of Ukrainian Easter Eggs
Date: Friday March 6, 2020
Time: 6:30-9 PM
Location: SPA facility (33737 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford)
Instructor: Penny B.
Pysanky are raw eggs created with the wax-resist method. The designs are "written" in hot wax with a special stylus called a kistka (кістка) which has a small funnel attached to hold a small amount of liquid wax. The word that is used to describe the egg actually comes from the Ukrainian verb pysaty, which means "to write".
In this workshop you will learn the traditional method of creating your own Pysanka, as well as learning the symbolism behind the traditional designs.
This workshop is suitable for all ages 10+.
Please bring 2 raw, unblown, whole white eggs to the workshop. Look for eggs with as few blemishes to the shell as possible.
All other materials will be provided for you.
