The Second Saturday Summer Social is a recurring, community event that promotes connection and creativity in the Fraser Valley. Each month (on the second Saturday) between May and July 2023, we invite lifelong learners to gather over tea and confections while forging connections and partaking in passive activities. Learners are invited to bring along their favorite pastimes (i.e. puzzle, cards, crochet, etc.) and/or simply enjoy connecting with others through conversation.
The Second Saturday Summer Social takes place in Mt. Lehman (peaceful, rural community near Abbotsford) between 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. each month. During the first hour, there will be a scheduled activity that attendees may partake in if desired. The second hour, we are putting the social in the Second Saturday Summer Social by providing a comfortable atmosphere for learners to engage, communicate, and share with one another.
On the Second Saturday in June (10th), free yourself from the confines of intentional artistry with Penny Bartel's meditative, mixed fiber art weaving. During the first hour of the event (1pm-2pm), Penny will guide learners through weaving their own, unique, fiber art creation in a 7" embroidery hoop. Learners can weave an intentional design (like the pictured scenic BC landscape) or take an intuitive, abstract approach to their art.
All materials are provided, however learners are encouraged to bring along their own crochet hooks and/or various bits of extra yarn leftover from other projects (if on hand - if not, all supplies provided onsite). If the weather permits, parts of this event may be offered outside. Please come dressed for the sunshine: equipped with a hat, sunblock, reusable bottle of cold drinking water, and anything else to be inspired and creatively activated.

The Second Saturday Summer Social is open to all ages and experience levels. Space is limited, please pre-register on the SPA website to reserve your spot. Upon registering, you will be prompted to download a digital document that contains all the event details. Please email path.awakening@gmail.com if you have difficulty downloading the pdf. Mt. Lehman United Church is located at 6256 Mount Lehman Rd, Abbotsford, BC V4X 2G5. Free parking is available onsite (in the Mt. Lehman United Church parking lot and on the shoulders of Mount Lehman Rd.) for event attendees. Weather permitting, the event will take place indoors and outdoors. Please come dressed for the sunshine: equipped with a hat, sunblock, reusable bottle of cold drinking water, and anything else to be inspired and creatively activated. Kindly note, there is no air conditioning at Mt. Lehman United Church.
