Sacred Spaces: Stories with Sacred Spaces
This event took place in February 2023
The UCBC Indigenous Foundations website describes Indigenous Storytelling: "...Oral traditions form the foundation of Aboriginal societies, connecting speaker, and listener in communal experience and uniting past and present in memory."
Spiritual Path to Awakening (SPA) welcomes the community to Downtown Abbotsford for Sacred Spaces: Stories with Sacred Spaces, celebrating Indigenous Storytelling Month. SPA takes pride in our commitment to making Indigenous Knowledge and Truth and Reconciliation an integral part of our event culture.
Storytelling is a traditional method used to teach about cultural beliefs, values, customs, rituals, history, practices, relationships, and ways of life. Join Darla Rasmussen (Blackkettle), Red Elk Singing Woman from Siksika Nation, as she shares with us Stories with Sacred Spaces.
Bring along a blanket, pillow, and bottle of water. Tea and confections provided.

About the Event Facilitator:
Red Elk Singing Woman from Siksika Nation, also known as Darla Rasmussen (Blackkettle), is a mother of two boys, an entrepreneur, and a lifelong student in self-discovery, healing and growth.
Her life experiences are what strengthened her heart, mind, body and spirit to love, encourage and support others enduring similar life sufferings and transitions.
Her work experience has offered her a wealth of knowledge and opportunity to advance and grow over her 18 years of supporting Indigenous youth, women, men, families and communities. In 2011 in-stead of taking her life, she mentored under an Elder who grounded her in ceremony, cultural teachings and practices that enriched her life and encouraged her to be who she is today.
With the influence of her Indigenous roots she offers “Sacred Spaces” to a variety of organizations, agencies and community members by bringing them together around the big drum to share cultural teachings in a sacred way.
You will find Darla charming, graceful and genuine to work with, she will come to you with an open mind, empathic heart and willingness to give and receive love, knowledge and laughter.
